How often do you take the escalator inside shops, department stores or stations? Possibly more than you think. It’s a good idea to reflect on your own safety. After all, an escalator is only really safe if you use it safely. Our top tip: stand still and hold tight.
Using escalators safely
Tip 1
HOLD THE HANDRAIL AND FACE FORWARD
This means that your footing is a lot more secure and you know exactly what is going on in front of you.
Tip 2
CHECK LACES AND COAT BEFOREHAND
Tie your laces before you step on and keep long clothing away from the steps and handrail.
Tip 3
DO NOT STAND CLOSE TO THE SIDE
Avoid getting trapped: do not stand close to the side of the step.
